Storm CloudsWelcome to NCTAM. This site is dedicated to weather lovers both young and old. NCTAM is an acronym for North Central Texas Atmospheric Monitoring. Its purpose is not only to educate and inspire those that love the weather but also to help protect those that may lie in the path of severe storms.  When severe weather is imminent, NCTAM sends out weather scouts to monitor the North Central Texas area. By doing so, they are able to lend eyes to meteorologists working on the inside enabling them to forecast potentially hazardous weather that could affect precious lives.  NCTAM weather scouts are storm spotters certified by the National Weather Service and are also trained CERT members. CERT, which stands for Community Emergency Response Teams, have had many hours of training in disaster preparedness, fire suppression, search and rescue, medical disaster operations, damage assessment and scene security. CERT members are trained by first responders and work closely with them to provide critical support in times of disasters.  Our scout teams continue to train with classroom and field exercises.

Here at NCTAM.com, not only will you find weather basics but also an up and coming image gallery, fascinating weather facts, links to current storm chasers and training as well as Emergency Weather Alerts as issued by the National Weather Service and local conditions for the D/FW area.  We will also be adding the history of severe weather outbreaks from around the world.
